   About Us... green with ren   The Story Behind The Name

    greenwren’s company name reflects combining two of my last names, while living the true definition of the words green and wren. I have been married two times. My last name from my first marriage started with the word green, (my three children also carry this name as their last name.) Green also represents our family and greenwren’s philosophy. My second and current marriage begins with Ren. The “w” in the word “with,” in the middle of these two names, represents bringing together two families: my children from my first marriage (and their families), my second and current husband, and my two stepson’s from my second marriage (and their families).

Healthier... p~wipes have many advantages . The material (microfibre coral fleece), the size (15cm by 15cm),  and the no additives (no fragrances, etc.) make for a cleaner wiping experience. Softness is important as it achieves the best results when wiping to prevent scratches, irritations, and the opportunity for frequent daily usage which allows consistency for a clean and perfect wipe every time. Even after many washes, they remain soft and fresh. Toilet paper, wet wipes, baby wipes, cotton cloth, etc., have foreign residues and fragrances which may cause streaking, irritation, inflammation, and sometimes even need medications. p~wipes may lead to fewer infections and scratches as they are a cleaner wiping choice.

Economical... Toilet paper usage per person varies quite a bit. Our estimates show that if you regularly use our p~wipe after urinating (peeing) in lieu of toilet paper, you can reduce between 60-90% of your toilet paper use. In just 3-5 months, the p~wipes will have paid for themselves with the money you saved using significantly less toilet paper. Purchasing multiple packs of p-wipes, resorts to not using toilet paper while you are washing your p~wipes, (it’s cheaper in the long run.) The three colors, (pink/grey, purple/grey, green/grey), make it possible to designate a specific color to different locations, different usages, or members of the household. They are great in the home, office, day cares, day outings, camping, travelling, etc.

Eco-Conscious... Wanting to decrease your daily disposable paper waste and lower your carbon footprint? Why you should choose to use less toilet paper, wet wipes, etc. and purchase our washable, reusable, personal wipes, p~wipes. What is the environmental cost to make toilet paper? Global toilet paper production consumes approximately 27,000 trees daily. It takes between 12 to 37 gallons of water to produce a single roll of toilet paper. Don’t forget the fuel of the equipment, helicopters, trucks, boats to bring the logs to the production sites. Of course there are costs, (air pollutions, water, trees, plastics and chemicals added to pulp, etc.) to manufacturing the toilet paper. Add the paper and\or plastic wrapping your toilet paper was wrapped in, then boxed in. Of course there are the costs we don't often think of, (wooden pallets for shipping, non-degradable plastic wrap for crating, etc.) Now, add the fuel to move your toilet paper from the production site, to the distribution site, to the grocery store, then to your home\office? Most toilet paper is burned as part of your sewage sludge at the wastewater treatment plant (air pollution). Purchasing and using toilet paper and other daily used disposable paper products, cost us more than just money.  It costs us our environmental future.

MY STORY In the last 25 years, I have started to have skin sensitivity to toilet paper, wipes, creams, hand and body soaps, laundry soaps, etc. This started me down the path of hives, accompanied with scratching, often leading to skin infections needing medications. It has only been the last 10 years that I made the connection between skin sensitivities and frequent yeast infections that lead me to realizing it was the toilet paper causing my most painful irritations in my most delicate area. This desperation lead me down the path of trying to find a clean, soft, absorbent, durable wipe that would not cause me negative health issues.

It was in 2020 during Covid-19, while sitting on the toilet, about to change the toilet paper roll, I noticed when placing the new roll of toilet paper on my legs that they had become itchy. I thought there was something wrong with that particular roll, so I got a new roll, this time placing it on my black yoga pants on my lap. Before placing the roll on the holder, I noticed that my yoga pants, (being that they are black), truly showed how much paper dander really comes off of a toilet paper roll. This lead me to thinking, maybe this was part of the problem as to why I was having skin sensitivity, irritations,  and many frequent infections.

I did some observations on my own and noticed that when I would go on holidays, the lower quality toilet paper often caused skin irritations and yeast infections. These lower quality toilet papers often left scratchiness, irritants, and more paper dander residue than the brand I was using at home. I always carried one or two rolls of toilet paper from home to prevent sensitivity that I knew I would have while using other toilet paper. This was always a bulky situation as I had to allow for the extra room in my suitcase for the size two rolls. I came to the conclusion that I needed to test a few brands that I frequently used and some I never used to truly find a solution. I chose some of the higher quality, brand name, toilet paper manufactures and found that even these toilet papers left paper dander residue and some left even more paper dander residue than the cheaper toilet paper products. It does not pay to tell you which brands as every brand that I tried left paper dander residue.

Now with these results, I came to this conclusion: I had to figure out how to prevent future irritations and infections by limiting my usage of toilet paper. My solution was to only use toilet paper when I was having a BM (bowel movement, a #2 job). Now I had to come up with what to use when peeing (#1 job.)

I tried numerous materials with no success. I found that cotton, bamboo, etc. frequently had lint, balling, and pilling. Considering the cost of these reusable wipes, they did not hold up to a healthy level of usage. In a very short time I noticed that they became more abrasive with each washing. They were quick to shrink, misshape, fade, and stain. 

I reached out to numerous fabric suppliers\manufacturers and asked to suggest materials that would be soft, durable, absorbent, with no dander residue, no balling or pilling, didn’t fade or stain, didn’t need special care, and kept its shape after numerous washings. They all suggested and agreed that the velvety, coral fleece, microfibre met all the requirements that I was wanting in a material. I then acquired a sample of the coral fleece and began using it daily.

It was at this time, of me using the coral fleece samples daily, that I mentioned to my husband, daughter, and friend, as to the situation with the irritants and my coral fleece wipe solution. At first, they were hesitant to try my new microfibre wipe. After only one week, they commented that they would never want to go back to using toilet paper for their #1 job. It was at this time that I decided I needed to share this new wipe with other individuals that wanted\needed a cleaner, healthier, eco-friendly alternative to disposable toiletry paper products.

My next step was to decide on a size. I wanted a size that would cover my hand enough to prevent it from getting wet, (unlike toilet paper, which often allows wetness to touch your hand due to the pile of toilet paper was not big enough or by tearing.) I also didn’t want it to be too big so that it would hang down and touch the toilet wetness while I was wiping. My goal was to keep my hand as dry and clean as possible during the entire process. I decided the perfect size would be 16 cm x 16 cm, which achieved the driest and cleanest wipe.

I also had to consider how to finish the sides of the cut microfibre, velvety, coral fleece. I was concerned that having them hemmed\stitched may cause another possible irritation due to bulkiness and scratching. I opted to do neither and instead found pressed loose edges caused the least amount of skin irritation and finishes off the fabric so it does not fray, as fraying would also possibly cause a skin irritation. I also chose not to put a brand name tag or brand stitching on the wipes as I was concerned that this too would become an irritant or scratch.

At this point, the decision was made to go into production. I am pleased to announce and present you with greenwren’s p~wipes, personal wipes – a cleaner, healthier, eco-conscious solution to disposable toiletry paper products. Since the beginning, I now use greenwren p~wipes to replace the bulk of our toilet paper and has replaced all wet wipes and paper towel usages.
